LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS (one or more of the following):

MST-PSB responds to the high level of social concern regarding the seriousness of sexually offending youth with an evidence-based model of treatment developed to address the broad array of risk factors not only with the youth individually, but also in the home, school and community. Most existing models in use today are adult models, repurposed for juvenile application. The MST-PSB model is a significant advance in the treatment of juvenile sexual offenders

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Therapist shall be actively involved in the development and implementation of the MST-PSB Program.  MST is an intensive family and community-based treatment that addresses the multiple determinants of serious anti-social behavior in juvenile offenders.  The multi-systemic approach views individuals as being nested within a complex network of interconnected systems that encompass individual, family and extra familial (peer, school, neighborhood) factors.  Primary goals of MST are to eliminate, or significantly reduce, the frequency and severity of a youth’s referral behaviors(s); and empowers the parents with the skills and resources needed to independently address the inevitable difficulties that arise in raising children and adolescents; and to empower youth to cope with family, peers, school, and neighborhood problems.  Treatment goals shall be identified and written objectively and shall be easily measurable; will focus directly on the referral/target behavior(s); and will incorporate desired outcomes of caregivers and other key participants.  The therapist will conduct MST assessments and individualized plans of service.  Maintains record compliance within agency requirements and standards utilizing electronic/hard copy record formats.  Shall ensure compliance and participation with competency improvement activities including, but not limited to, credentialing, continuing education (per licensure requirements or minimum of 24 hours per year of clinically based trainings), implementation of evidence based practices, peer review attendance, and professional improvement practices.  After-hours on-call availability required.  Demonstrates excellent organizational, communication, computer, analytical and problem-solving skills.  Shall be self-directed and resourceful.  Participates in corporate quality improvement and problem solving activities.  Maintains confidentiality and privacy within MDHHS, state and federal guidelines.  Utilizes knowledge of JCAHO, CMS, MDHHS and Managed Care standards.  Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications and Capabilities:

·        Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social work or related field with Certification in the State of Michigan as a Licensed Master’s Level Social Worker (LMSW) or Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

·        Must meet requirements of a Child Mental Health Therapist as identified by the Michigan Department of Community Health.

·        Two years of experience in providing adolescent behavioral healthcare.

·        Must participate in all MST required trainings; conducting YASI Full Assessments; and CAFAS training modules.

·        Specialized training, skills and abilities:  Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are desired.

·        One year of computer experience – Word, Excel and electronic medical record software preferred.

This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support: 1)culturally competent, recovery-based practices; 2)person-centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and 3)a trauma informed culture to aid individuals in their recovery process.

A trauma-informed approach to service delivery emphasizes physical and emotional safety, choice, empowerment, and trustworthiness for customers.  The impact of trauma is broad and touches many life domains.  Participation is mandatory for activities required for Summit Pointe to become a “Trauma Informed System of Care.”

     Professional office environment that generates noise from computer equipment/peripherals.

     Sometimes lifts, carries, or moves objects up to 25 lbs.

     May be required to work variable hours/shifts.

     Qualify for and retain a Summit Pointe driving permit – if utilizing agency vehicles or transporting customers – with the potential for exposure to automobile accidents causing possible bodily damage.

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a well-researched community-based treatment model directed at youth involved in criminal activity. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the MST therapists provide a variety of services to youth and their families, including assessment, treatment, clinical interventions and collaboration with families, youth, community agency staff, and school officials. The general purpose of this position is to provide therapy to consumers and their families using the Multisystemic Therapy for Problem Sexual Behavior (MST-PSB) model of treatment.

1.     Conducts screenings to assess appropriate fit to the Evidence Based Programs.

2.     Conduct MST-PSB assessment in accordance with the MST-PSB model.

3.     Engages primary caregiver and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.

4.     Implements a problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, and outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process.

5.     Maintains MST Quality Assurance procedures, including TAM collection, Clinician Development Plan, and Program Implementation Review process.

6.     Maintain clear, concise and timely documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer, supervisory and consultant review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with the 9 MST Principles and the MST Analytic Process. Timeliness includes entering notes within 72 hours of service, completing weeklies and monthlies according to MST Procedures, and completing requesting outcome tracking calls.

7.     Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and cooperation throughout MST treatment.

8.     Provides direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST-PSB principles and practices including participating in 24/7 on-call for MST-PSB families.

9.     Must consistently meet program unit requirements.

10.  Maintains a caseload of 3 to 5 families.

11.  Participate in all MST-PSB training, supervision and consultation activities.

12.  Provides peer support to team members, including allowing co-workers to observe treatment sessions.

Must be at least 21 years of age. Requires a Master's degree in a Behavioral Health related field.

·       Will obtain and maintain adherence to the MST Model per MST Institute Therapist Adherence Measures.

·       Requires attendance to Quarterly MST Booster Trainings

·       Must maintain current CPR/First Aid and CPI Certification.

·       Must maintain current Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

·       Must maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and current personal auto liability insurance.

·       Must have reliable personal transportation.


·       Must be able to provide non-violent physical intervention.

·       Must be willing and able to videotape and/or audiotape.

·       Due to MST Model requirements, MST Therapists are not permitted to hold secondary employment.

·       Includes non-traditional work hours including some evenings and occasional weekends.

·       Work is conducted primarily in families' homes resulting in possible exposure to allergens including pets and cigarette smoke.

·       Requires a significant amount of driving, covering a multiple county area.

·       Requires out of state travel to initial MST-PSB program orientation and training.

·       Remains up to date on all required recurrent trainings.

Actively participates in the Quality Assurance Plan of TBH by identifying, notifying and participating in determining and implementing resolutions. Assures that problems are addressed by the appropriate personnel AND that standards are met and that quality is obtained and maintained.
